Hi, my name is Adele du Rand
I didn’t grow up with a camera in my hand – in fact, I got my first DSLR by accident. In 2011, when my husband upgraded his camera, I inherited his old one. I had no idea how to use it. Then he booked me a “how to use your camera” session with renown South African photographer Derek Pearman.
I’ll be honest — I didn’t want to go. I thought it would be technical and overwhelming. But those 3 hours completely changed the way I saw the world. Suddenly, everything looked like a photo waiting to happen. And I haven’t stopped shooting since.
Today, I’m a South African photographer specialising in action, lifestyle, and creative portrait photography. I work with people — not products or staged perfection — because I’m obsessed with real moments, movement, energy, and personality.
I also teach photography to total beginners, especially DSLR users who feel overwhelmed by all the buttons and settings. My teaching style? Meet you where you’re at. You don’t need to understand the inner workings of a camera to take great photos — just like you don’t need to be a mechanic to drive a car. But if you do like the nerdy stuff, we can totally go there too.
So whether you want to:
- Get off Auto Mode and finally understand how your camera works
- Book a photoshoot that captures who you are — in motion or in your quiet magic
- Or explore photography as a creative outlet (even if you’re not sure where to start)
…I’d love to work with you.
